I write because I have to. I write because I can't not write. Writing is what I do all the time. I write to earn my living. I write for pleasure. Sometimes I wish I had a more practical skill. One that involved real tools. Like being a graphic designer, or a nurse, or a bricklayer. I've tried doing other things. I've worked in retail, at a gym, in a printing plant, as a maid, as a proofreader, selling ice cream, and hawking toys. None of it has ever really taken. So I guess I'm stuck with the writing. Good thing I love it.
What I write
I write copy for websites and SEO, I write articles, and I write books for other people. I write in my journal and I write short stories and I write novels--simply because I love it. Besides the variety of writing jobs listed above, I also mentor and coach writers. (I have my MFA, and I'm also went through life-coaching training in order to ghost-write a book about it.) I teach through the Writer's Loft Extension Program at Middle Tennessee State University, and also privately.
Whither Word Strumpet?
You may not share my extreme passion for writing. You may write only because you have to for job or school. Or you may love the craft as much as I do. Whichever way your wind blows, it is my hope that you will bring a little passion to the words you use. It is my hope that this blog will help you to do that.
I am a Renaissance writer in a niche world because that's what we writers have to be to make a career of it. Writing is my vocation, my avocation, and my longest-lasting love. I am grateful every single damn day of my life that this is what I get to do with it.
